MikroElektronika’s MIKROE-1444 Thunder click features the ams AS3935 lightning sensor as well as the MA5532 coil antenna. It detects the presence and proximity of potentially hazardous lightning activity in the vicinity and provides estimated distance to the center of the storm. Noise level information can also be detected using this board. Thunder click communicates with the target board microcontroller via SPI and INT lines. The Thunder click board runs on 3.3 V or 5 V power supplies. LED diode (GREEN) indicates the presence of a power supply. These features make this board ideal for applications including weather stations, pool safety, UPSs, watches, GPSs, sports equipment, cellular phones, and IoT.
The Franklin lightning sensor (AS3935) from ams is a programmable lightning sensor IC that detects the presence and approach of potentially hazardous lightning activity in the vicinity. It detects intracloud activity, as well as cloud to ground flashes, often enabling risk to be evaluated for approaching storms. The AS3935 detects lightning activity as it approaches from up to 40 km away. In addition, the sensor identifies and rejects interference signals from common man-made sources, including fluorescent lighting, motors, microwave ovens, and switches. The AD3935 has large capabilities and comes in a very small 4 mm x 4 mm 16 LD MLPQ package.
